This painting brings me back to my favorite cousins when I was very little.
They had these dark blue sheets covered in planets and stars, and somehow those sheets became part of what cousin parties felt like to me. They meant family gatherings, staying over, being with some of my favorite people, and the excitement of knowing we were all together.
Under the Same Stars doesn't look like those sheets. The colors are brighter, bolder, almost rainbow-like. But something in the colors and patterns brings back the feeling of them.
This piece began with an acrylic underpainting filled with texture. Layers of oil now move across that surface, while the texture underneath creates patterns and shapes of its own—pieces of an earlier painting still influencing what you see now.
Part of the 80's Child Is Full of Woe collection, Under the Same Stars holds a memory of belonging: the people who made childhood feel exciting simply because you got to be together, and the places and objects that somehow became inseparable from the memory of loving them.
When you purchase an original, if you don’t choose to pick it up from the studio you will be sent an additional invoice for shipping costs.
