Still Becoming 36 x 48 Abstract Acrylic on canvas

$1,728.00

Still Becoming
36 × 48
Mixed Media on Canvas
Collection: Mending, In Practice

This piece began with the same momentum that fueled several paintings before it — bright spring days, painting outdoors, layers drying quickly in the sun.

Then the weather shifted.

North Carolina spring can turn overnight, and what had been an 85-degree painting day dropped to below 45. The work had to move indoors, and the rhythm of the painting changed with it.

Layers dried slowly. Fresh paint lifted earlier color. Areas moved in ways I hadn’t planned. What had felt fluid suddenly required patience.

At first the process felt frustrating. The vision I had for the painting became less clear.

But as I slowed down with it, something else began to emerge.

Broad passages of violet and pink formed the foundation, interrupted by expansive swaths of gold. Neon green surfaces quietly through the layers, while gestural movements of silver and blue travel across the canvas.

The painting ultimately resolved itself differently than the others that came before it — not through momentum, but through persistence.

In healing, not every step forward happens in flow. Sometimes progress looks like adjusting to new conditions and continuing the work anyway.

This piece holds that moment.

Not finished.
Not stuck.

Still becoming.
