Dancing in the Ashes
20x40" | Mixed Media on Canvas
Acrylic, Plaster of Paris, Ground Limestone, Coffee, Gold Leaf & Ink
Dancing in the Ashes is what it feels like to rise — not clean, not untouched, but alive. Painted during a thunderstorm, this piece pulses with raw emotion and fierce feminine energy. It’s moody, textured, and full of contrast — light breaking through shadow, softness held inside grit.
An underpainting of turquoise, soft blue, and pink-red peeks through in flashes, like embers glowing under ash. The dominant surface is layered with blackened greys, whites, and touches of metallic gold leaf — forming a palette that holds both grief and radiance. The materials themselves — plaster of Paris, ground limestone, coffee, and ink — give the painting an almost elemental weight.
This is the piece I posted and said, "This is what my soul feels like right now." And it still is. It’s movement. It’s truth. It’s the light that refuses to go out.
Dancing in the Ashes is a tribute to the part of healing that doesn’t seek perfection — it seeks presence. It’s not about having it all together. It’s about being real, raw, and awake in the fire. And choosing to move anyway.
