Triage
18x24" | Mixed Media on Canvas
Acrylic, Plaster of Paris, Ground Limestone, Ground Marble, Sand, Coffee & Sepia Ink
Triage is a painting about urgency and aftermath — about what we do to hold ourselves together when healing isn’t linear, and beauty must coexist with damage. Beneath the surface lies a rich underpainting of deep purples and pinks, now partially concealed by a thick, earthen mixture of plaster of Paris, sand, ground limestone, ground marble, and white acrylic. The result is a cracked, textured skin — like sun-dried earth after a long season of drought.
Hints of the original color pulse beneath the surface, just barely visible — a reminder that what’s beneath the wound is still alive. Sepia ink lines stretch across the piece like stitches, both literal and symbolic, holding the surface with a kind of sacred care. Pale blue appears in soft whispers, like breath returning to the body.
This piece is about the necessary mess of mending. About covering, not to hide — but to protect. Triage is the tender, imperfect work of healing in motion.
