This piece emerged from what has felt like a long, narrow winter — a season of enclosure, uncertainty, and waiting.

Recently, I began sensing a subtle shift. Not full warmth, not bloom — but thaw. The way the earth smells after being covered in snow. The quiet realization that something has changed, even if the calendar hasn’t caught up.

Layered over a deep maroon base, the surface holds white, blues, dirty yellow, and touches of gold. Pencil and oil pastel marks move across the canvas like undercurrents — remnants of winter still present, but no longer dominant.

This work reflects that transition — not yet the start of spring, but the quiet, steady feeling of having made it through.
