Playing in Imagination
36 × 48
Mixed Media on Canvas
Collection: Mending, In Practice

This piece holds a sense of buoyant movement — layered in pale pinks, neon green, cerulean blue, violet lines, and touches of gold. The surface is textured and alive, yet weightless.

While painting, I found myself remembering the feeling of playing alone in my backyard as a child — grass-stained knees, the smell of summer, the safety of being completely absorbed in make-believe. That space required nothing from me. No proving. No performance. Just presence.

This work is not about nostalgia. It is about access.

Playing in imagination is an act of return — to authenticity, to safety, to the parts of ourselves that once felt whole without effort. It is a reminder that healing is not only about tending wounds. Sometimes it is about remembering the states where we first felt free.

This piece reflects that reclaiming.
