What Settles
36 × 24
Mixed Media on Canvas
Collection: Mending, In Practice

This piece began during a winter storm, in a quiet house, on a canvas that already carried another painting beneath it. I layered slowly — white, pale blue, dusty rose, muted green — letting texture build without urgency.

At first, the work felt like atmosphere. Soft. Nearly background. A study in quiet.

But mending is rarely only quiet.

Neon green emerged. Drops of magenta interrupted the stillness. Fine gold lines traced through the surface like energy returning to a resting body. The muted layers remain, but now they hold something alive inside them.

For me, this is what settling truly looks like. Not flatness. Not disappearance. Not neutrality for its own sake. But a grounded calm that still contains color, charge, and spark.

Healing doesn’t erase intensity.
It teaches it where to live.

This piece reflects that balance — gentleness with vitality intact.
