Description

Holed up during what felt like an unprecedented snowstorm for Greensboro, I turned my living room into a temporary studio — my usual studio space too cold to work in.

I began this piece by painting over a work from last year that I liked, but didn’t love. I allowed parts of that earlier painting to remain visible, letting texture take center stage while keeping the color palette intentionally limited.

Outside, the storm raged. Inside, I kept layering — paint over paint — until the right piece slowly emerged.

There is something anatomical in this work for me. I see branching forms, reminiscent of magnified lung tissue, rendered in more vibrant, living color. The surface feels alive — active, visceral.

This piece holds a kind of charged energy — not frantic, but powerful — the feeling of something vital working hard beneath the surface.
